The Lewes Fund was established in 2012 to encourage charitable giving and to act as a fundraiser for local groups. The Fund draws on the knowledge and support of the local community, working together to help reduce disadvantage and build a stronger, sustainable community for the future.
The Lewes Fund now has £300,000 invested as an endowment fund at the Foundation ensuring sustainable support for the long-term.
The Fund is overseen by a steering group, comprising: Richard Pearson (Chair), Michael Bell, Keith Hollis, Peter Mettyear, Ruth O’Keeffe, Deidre Prower, Caroline Tower, and the Lewes Mayor (ex officio).
Charities and community groups in Lewes and the surrounding parishes running projects supporting disadvantaged local people, including young people and older people, are encouraged to apply to the fund.
Application deadlines are in line with our Main grants rounds three times per year: January (£2,000), May (£2,000) and September (up to £5,000).
Apply via our Main grants application form. Before you start on our application form, make sure you read our full guidance on applying.
"While many parts of Lewes are prospering, there are areas of significant deprivation and individuals in need. Requests for help via Citizens Advice from those in need are at record levels. We are fortunate that there are over 100 local community groups and charities whom, along with their volunteers, help meet these local needs. However, they can only operate and survive with continuing financial support, which increasingly has to come from the local community.”
The generosity of local donors has already enabled the fund to give out over £130,000 in grants to more than 40 local community groups. The latest impact report for the Lewes Fund can be downloaded here.
To help us meet future needs and increase the number of grants we can make, we welcome new donations to the Lewes Fund, especially those made via standing orders.
Donations normally attract Gift Aid increasing their value by 25%. In the case of businesses, donations can normally be offset against tax. Cheques should be made payable to Sussex Community Foundation/Lewes Fund. To donate now visit the Lewes Fund TotalGiving page below.
