On Your Way (Job Club and Digital Inclusion)

On Your Way (Job Club and Digital Inclusion) is a project run by and for local people living in Moulsecoomb and Bevendean.

They provide on-the-spot advice at weekly drop-in sessions focussed on finding work, digital inclusion, benefits and emergency help, adapted to the needs of those who use them.

Paul’s Story

Paul* came to see us at one of our weekly job clubs. We always begin with an initial talk which last about twenty minutes. This is an informal assessment to find any underlying cause that would prevent or cause harm to the client returning to or starting a career, for example health, debt, relationships etc. Paul explained that due to mental health problems he had been off work for quite a long time and he lives with his partner who also has mental health problems.

He wanted to return to the work he used to do as a painter and decorator, and his partner was supportive. We helped Paul to draft a CV. Because we know that this makes a difference to whether employers will notice and read a CV, we suggested adding a photo. Paul returned to the Friday Job Club as arranged in his bib and braces outfit and a hat covered in paint. We took a photo, added it to his CV, and printed off twenty copies. It took only four days to find Paul employment and he is still working.
