Empowering Women: Ladies Day for My Sisters’ House

Our Philanthropy Manager, Jackie Wilkes, had the privilege of joining local women’s charity, My Sisters’ House, for Ladies Day at Goodwood raising funds for their crucial work.

Jackie recently represented the Foundation as a guest of My Sisters’ House, this year’s chosen charity for the Markel Magnolia Cup. The Magnolia Cup is a charity horse race held annually on Ladies Day at Glorious Goodwood. The jockeys are women selected from all walks of life – none is a professional jockey – but all are incredibly brave and resilient women who come together to help raise awareness and funds for a chosen charity.

“As a local charity, run by women, for women, we love what the Markel Magnolia Cup stands for in terms of championing women and women’s opportunities. The ability to raise funds for the provision of life-changing services is absolutely vital, and the continuing support of funders such as Sussex Community Foundation enables My Sisters’ House to make a lasting difference in women’s lives. We are extremely grateful.”

Avril Robinson, Acting CEO of My Sisters’ House

My Sisters’ House is a West Sussex women’s centre that was founded in 2014 and has received funding from the Foundation on several occasions. The charity supports any self-identifying woman to improve their welfare and wellbeing, reducing the risk of domestic abuse and supporting recovery. They operate across two hubs in Arun District and Chichester and sadly the need for their services is growing rapidly.
