Lawson Match Challenge Raises £1.5 Million for Sussex Communities

Sussex Community Foundation is delighted to announce the successful completion of the Lawson Trust Endowment Match Challenge, which has brought in £1.5 million in long-term support for Sussex communities.

This significant achievement is thanks to the generosity of both new and existing donors, as well as the vital match funding from the Lawson Trust.

The Lawson Trust’s initiative provided a 50% match for every pound donated to our endowment fund. This funding boost will empower local charities and community groups across Sussex to continue their essential work, supporting a diverse range of causes including mental health services, youth programmes, food banks, debt advice and climate action.

"We are proud to have partnered with Sussex Community Foundation to provide match funding, helping raise an incredible £1.5 million in endowment funding. This achievement represents a shared commitment to building a brighter and more resilient future for local causes."

The Lawson Trust

Since 2017, Sussex Community Foundation and the Lawson Trust have been key partners, united in our commitment to creating lasting local change. This match funding focused on grant-making through an endowment fund, which is invested for long-term sustainability. A percentage of the capital will be used annually for grants, ensuring continuous support for local projects that address the Foundation’s four funding priorities: Tackling poverty, Improving health, Reaching potential, and Acting on climate.

“We are incredibly grateful to The Lawson Trust for creating this great incentive for donors. Their match funding has inspired many people to give, allowing us to turn their pledged £500,000 into £1.5 million in under a year. This will support vital community projects today and build a strong community for future generations.”

Kevin Richmond, CEO Sussex Community Foundation

Thanks to the combined efforts of our generous donors and the match from The Lawson Trust, Sussex charities can continue their life-changing work for years to come.
